An Ode to a Chairman

Great thanks to Sue Cross for this:-

Ian and Carol - what can we say?

CCCA New Logo
You made our trip special in every way.
To Cordoba, then La Mancha's plains
And villages with unpronounceable names.
Only two flat tyres blighted our trip,
When the gaffer tape just would not stick.
In Toledo we were wined and dined
By staff that were efficient and kind.
And someone who normally refuses to dance
Was persuaded to have a little prance.
This person shall, of course, be nameless,
As his antics were quite shameless!
So let us take wine
For a trip so divine
Thanks to our Chairman and his missus
We send you lots of hugs and kisses.
From members of the CC of A
And that is all that we can say.

Race Retro 2013

A record turnout and an array of motorsport legends helped celebrate the 10th aaniversary of Race Retro, the now infamous international historic motorsport show.
Almost 30,000 visitors came to Stoneleigh Park for the three-day event. The highlight of the event, as always, are the legendary Group B rally cars, deemed to dangerous to race! Over 50 cars took part including Mk1 (ex Roger Clark) and 2 Escorts, Talbot Sunbeam (ex Russell Brookes'), Renault 5 Turbo, Porsache 911, Audi Quattro, Sierra Cosworth, MG Metro 6R4s and a Mk1 Lotus Cortina.
Over 250 exhibitors crammed into the halls, whilst legends Sir Stirling Moss and Murray Walker were in attendance to see Jim Clarke's Lotus 25 tribute and the rallying success of the Alpine Renault A110 in 1973. Generous in their time, they took part in multiple interview and autograph signing opportunities.
Other famouse attendees included Tiff Needell, Barry Lee and Win Percy, amongst others. Murray Walker said: "This is my first time at Race Retro and Iím so impressed, not only with what the show has to offer, but the passion of the enthusiasts attending. Iíve had a wonderful time meeting some of my dear old friends that I never thought Iíd get to see again. In the immortal words of General Douglas McArthur, ëI shall returní."
Meanwhile Silverstone Auctions generated well over £1.4m of sales, including a 1967 Aston Martin DB6 and a 1952 Land Rover 80" series. Over 64% of cars offered were sold under the hammer.
Two-wheeled enthusiasts were also catered for with a selection of Barry Sheene race bikes, it is ten years since we lost one of the great British heros.

From the Chair.....February Events Coming Up

We've got plenty of things going on in February for you.  Starting with our Clubnight on Tuesday the 5th at El Chaparral.  The usual good food, wine and great company. And, still only 20€ inclusive.

Following that, on Saturday 9th, we have a superb classic car run & lunch organised for us by Tarik Wildman & Lorraine Powell.  The route will start from Venta Peligrino, just above the La Cañada shopping centre, near Marbella.  Breakfast early, cars to depart at 11.00AM with registration closing at 10.45.  This is a stunning route and will finish at the restaurante El Coto near San Pedro. Please let us know if you are coming, I will send out RoadBooks etc and directions to the start later in the week.  We will also need your choice of main course which will be steak or fish.  More information soon.

Next week, on Tuesday February 12th, we are doing something different.  We are arranging a small wine tasting and tapas evening at 'The Loft' in Calahonda.  This elegant wine bar lends itself well to the occasion and is owned by CCCA members Marisa and Robert Wrigley.  The evning will be presented by wine expert Charlotte Rodriguez whose enthusiasm and knowledge are well known in wine circles.  Tickets will be 18€ which includes tastings of 5 wines and some splendid tapas prepared by Marisa herself.  Contact them direct if you are coming.  Places are filling up quickly and only a limited number can be managed.  So contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Tuesday after that, February 19th, we are having the first of our regular 'Film Nights' at Hotel Tamisa Golf in Mijas Costa.  For only 10€ you will get a decent feature film, some modern, some classic, as well as a light supper included and half price drinks early in the evening.  This should be a real fun evening and a great chance to socialise over a 'noggin and natter' before and after the films.

I am also delighted to tell you that, following our first recce last week, the 5-day Tour Clasicos La Mancha event set for March 20th has a full entry.  This has the makings of a great event and we have a superb entry list, full of fun people, which will contribute to making it a great party!

I hope to see you at these events, supporting your Club.

Kind regards,

Ian
